I am a marketing expert, strategist and journalist. My passion for constructing and communicating strategic ideas always surpasses the expectations of my employer with my attention to detail, organizational skills and my extraordinary work ethic.
Prior to my experience in real estate marketing I worked with several renowned sports organizations. My passion for sports grew from my time as a competitive soccer player. Playing soccer was such a pivotal time in my life and I believe that experience developed me into the person I am today; someone who is driven, dedicated and persistent. Although I decided not to forego playing soccer at the collegiate level, I knew that my passion for sports would progress.
My first opportunity to continue my passion came my sophomore year of college at the University of Kansas where I became the Student Assistant to Football Recruiting for the Kansas Football Department. In this role I was responsible for giving campus tours, providing office maintenance/assistance, creating weekly mailings, data entry and engaging with the recruits and their families. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the KU Football program. It was a real joy building relationships with the coaches, recruits, ESPN Producers and other influential KU Athletics personnel.
During my time with KU Football I journeyed into the Kansas Athletics Communications Department where I became the Women’s Golf Contact. As their contact I learned even more about what it takes to run a successful collegiate athletics program. Videos, interviews, press releases, press conferences and social media played a vital role in my time there. Through this position I acquired many desirable work skills, including: time management, organization, content development and efficient communication. I truly appreciated my time in the KU Athletics Department and I will never forget the knowledge and relationships I gained from working in such a renowned institution.
After graduating with a degree in Journalism from the William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communication, I asked the age old question, ‘what now?’ At first, I believed the answer was to work for a professional Kansas City sports team, but I wanted to take the great foundation I gained from KU and apply it to an organization working for a purpose. That’s when I discovered the Kansas City Sports Commission & Foundation, a 100 percent privately funded non-profit that works to promote Kansas City sports.
I was more than thrilled at the opportunity to intern for such a great organization, not only for what they do, but because of the people connected with the organization, such as President and CEO, Kathy Nelson. Kathy Nelson was involved with Metro Sports and FOX 4/WDAF-TV in Kansas City and was the first woman to win a regional Emmy for the production of an NFL game. I was extremely humbled to work alongside such a strong business woman and more importantly, an influential woman in our male-dominated sports world. As the Kansas City Sports Commission’s marketing intern I helped manage the KC Marathon’s registration database, social media campaigns, contacted professional sports organizations for promotional items and give ways and wrote feature stories for the KC Marathon.
I learned a tremendous amount about the business world and about life from all of these renowned organizations. Not only is it important to do your job, and do it well, but it’s also important to create healthy working relationships along the way. I’ve taken everything I’ve learned from journalism school and these internships, from press releases, content writing, marketing, social media, and strategic planning.
As the previous Director of Marketing for one of the top real estate teams in the country I was responsible for all the marketing and advertising for the company as a whole and for the 50 individual agents. I did everything from branding, media buying, content development, social media campaigns, creative design, to market strategy and client management. This was the most difficult position I’ve held yet, but it is also the most rewarding. Having limited resources in the beginning of this position allowed me to truly shine with my keen sense of organization, creativity and client management.
Today, I serve as the Chapter Manager for Entrepreneurs’ Organization KC. As the Chapter Manager I provide guidance to the chapter, chapter leadership and the Regional Council members consistent with the mission and vision statements of the Global Organization. I advise chapter board officers on standard chapter operations and best practices and help coordinate the events and activities associated with the chapter. My primary goal as the Chapter Manager is to create a healthy, growing chapter that consistently delivers the EO brand to its members.
Wonderfully written. Very engaging!!
Good luck in your next endeavour!!
